Dementia Care Certification: Assess, Communicate + Reduce Challenging Behaviours
Dementia Care Certification: Assess, Communicate + Reduce Challenging Behaviours

Practical, evidence-informed dementia care training to help you assess cognitive change, reduce challenging behaviours, and communicate with greater clarity and compassion — with a clear certification pathway.

Who is this workshop for...

  • Nurses, nurse practitioners, enrolled nurses, and aged care/home care staff

  • Allied health clinicians (OT, PT, SLP) and therapy assistants working with older adults

  • Psychologists, counsellors, social workers, psychotherapists and mental health clinicians

  • Case managers / care coordinators supporting complex older adult presentations

  • Residential aged care leaders, clinical managers, and quality/education staff

  • Any practitioner supporting clients and families impacted by dementia

What you’ll be able to do...

  1. Differentiate major dementia presentations and stages, and distinguish dementia from normal ageing and common reversible “look-alikes”.

  2. Use practical screening approaches to guide early identification, referral decisions, and day-to-day care planning.

  3. Apply a clear behavioural support toolbox to reduce distress and escalation (e.g., wandering, sundowning, aggression, paranoia, repetitive behaviours).

  4. Improve communication using practical verbal and non-verbal strategies to increase cooperation and reduce conflict.

  5. Strengthen safe and ethical practice, including risk management, documentation essentials, end-of-life considerations, and responding to suspected elder abuse.
