What you’ll be able to do...
Differentiate major dementia presentations and stages, and distinguish dementia from normal ageing and common reversible “look-alikes”.
Use practical screening approaches to guide early identification, referral decisions, and day-to-day care planning.
Apply a clear behavioural support toolbox to reduce distress and escalation (e.g., wandering, sundowning, aggression, paranoia, repetitive behaviours).
Improve communication using practical verbal and non-verbal strategies to increase cooperation and reduce conflict.
Strengthen safe and ethical practice, including risk management, documentation essentials, end-of-life considerations, and responding to suspected elder abuse.
